March 18, 2008
We have entered our 2008 season. The new Board is in place; our By-Laws have been updated (YAHOO); our 2007 Award Ceremony took place and we are pushing forward towards registration of the children for this new season.
As I reflect back over the last year there have been so many wonderful things that have happened to our organization: Flag/Mitey Mite Fun Day; a tough but rewarding football season; a Midget game that took place at night in Wall in which the fog was so thick that it was difficult to see the ball, but our boys won anyway; three cheer teams taking first place in one of their competitions and the Pee Wee Cheer Team becoming 2007 Pee Wee Small Novice National Champions. I have also reflected on the fact that there were errors in running the organization in that our Flag program took a couple of steps backward due to a lack of communication; a very bad football game in which a player got injured, complaints were issued against us and by us and the children involved in that game found out that adults do not always act like adults should; and that our football schedule was so crazy that not all of our children could play at the same fields or even on the same days.
As a result of the good and not so good of 2007, I would like everyone to know that we are dedicated to making changes to this season. There are some things we can control, like the communication coming out to the parents so that everyone stays informed of what is going on and we can work together, Board, Coaches, parents and children, to make this the best season ever! There are some things that we cannot control including our football schedule. We are going to make every effort to have all our kids playing the same schedule; however, the schedule is put together by Jersey Shore and since they have 35 towns, each having at least as many teams as we do and in some cases more teams, to contend with, they, too, do the best they can.
Having said all of that, my goals this year are to have one program, football and cheer, work together to make all of our children feel that this year will be everything they want. I am making that commitment and so is the Board. I am asking that all of you make the same commitment. By that I mean, help the Board run the organization with your input at our General Meetings; let the Coaches coach your children, if you feel you would like to help out, fill out an application and "join the team"; most of all LET OUR CHILDREN BE CHILDREN - let them have fun. If they make a mistake - so what. Encourage them, praise them and let them have FUN. I am asking again, let's roll up our sleeves and work together as one unit with one goal - TO MAKE THIS SEASON THE BEST EVER FOR OUR CHILDREN!!
